STAGE

“Performing groups” are touring troupes that can only be seen in Taiwan. Since the 1970s, they have been active in various occasions like weddings and funerals. In earlier years, in addition to built stages (which can still be seen today), their stages were often their simply tuned trucks with lighting instruments and speakers. Now, with advanced technologies, the audience and business owners have great expectations for sound and visual effects, the tuned trucks have been gradually developed into modernized hydraulic trucks with adjustable stages. In early days, most of the performances were singing and dancing. The performers usually took multiple cases and performed at several locations in the vicinity at appointed time. Sometimes, they performed in funeral processions or temple gatherings.
The series of STAGE exhibited here mainly consists of photographs of those hydraulic trucks taken with large cameras during 2006 to 2014. These tuned trucks are still widely used by performing groups around Taiwan, thriving in the real world. Via my artworks, I want to inspire the viewers with its unique practice of industry, abundant cultural messages, innovative concepts and stylish designs, leading them to further imagine and connect with time, space, verticals, horizons, planes and three dimensions of this entertainment culture exclusive in Taiwan.
