Artist Biography

Yashin is a visual narrative artist whose practice spans illustration, graphic novels, art books, hand-drawn paintings, and spatial creations. Recently, she has introduced the "Hat Traveler" as her core character, drawing inspiration from field observations and landscape sketching during her artist residencies. Yashin transforms tangible scenery into abstract landscapes, filtering out emotionally poignant fragments from everyday life to let the external landscape reflect the character's inner state. She continuously explores how readers engage with sequential imagery. Through deliberate rules, rhythm, and formal design across her visuals, she creates a narrative-driven viewing experience, developing a unique and distinct visual language within her work.

Exhibition Introduction

Along a railway line where trains no longer run, I depict the landscapes on both sides. Long after the trains have departed, the tracks remain in place, continuously pointing toward the memory of somewhere.During my residency, I cycled along the tracks, constantly repositioning myself within space and time as I moved. I straightened the railway line beneath my feet and fixed it horizontally across the center of the canvas. Guided by this line, I arranged the relative positions of the surrounding scenery and time, extending it to become the visual focus of the exhibition space. The railway is no longer merely a subject of depiction; instead, it has become the benchmark for organizing images and the act of viewing.Using this straight, horizontally cutting railway line as a benchmark, I experiment with how this reading structure translates among paintings, books, and the exhibition space, creating viewing experiences across different scales. The work weaves together the local railway line and the narrative thread of a book. It translates the way pages are turned—switching between space and time—into a viewing structure within the exhibition. This allows the viewer's gaze to travel as if moving along the railway, re-establishing the relationship between locality, space, and time through the interplay of movement and reading.
