Siraya Tribe people originally spread between Tainan and Henchun Peninsula. It is the largest Plains Indigenous People in terms of its population. The Siraya Tribe in the Tainan area mainly consists of 4 communities: Sinkan Community (today‘s Shinshi district), Soulang Community (today‘s Jiali district), Backoloan Community (today‘s Shanhua district) and Mattau Community (today‘s Madou district). Over a long period of interacting with the outside world, Siraya has amalgamated the outside culture and gradually changed its traditional life style; nevertheless, many Siraya people today still stages its unique ritual activities. The main goal for establishing the Siraya Exhibition Hall is to benefit school children and create an opportunity for strengthening the parent/children connection. The design is based on the “Museum Theater” concept where a series of scenes replicating the historical context are created to accompany the corresponding thematic stories that are being told. The historical scenes try to simulate the circumstances and physical space of a historical or social event at the time that it happened, to prompt a dialogue and interaction with the audience, and make it easier for the audience to enter into and understand the life of the Siraya Tribe, both its past and present. Concurrently, we are also planning and developing a “Docent Theatre” as a form of exhibition to present the story line in order to bring the Siraya‘s history and culture to life through animated theatrical acting and to promote a dialogue and help draw a closer connection between the audience and the Siraya society today.
