Culture and Arts Education in Siao-long
Transformed and revitalized from the old warehouses of the sugar refinery, Siao-long Cultural Park has developed to be a platform for contemporary art all the way through the establishment of Siao-long Children’s Museum of Art and International Artist Village. The project of “Culture and Arts Cultivation” granted by the Ministry of Culture in 2019 has strengthened the foundation and furthered the progress through the cultural experience workshops, “Contemporary Visual Art in Siao-long Cultural Park”, collaborated by contemporary artists from various disciplines in Siao-long, schools in the adjacent areas, and multiple groups and communities.
Cultural Experience Workshops for Art Education
The workshops organized by Siao-long Cultural Park for art experiences with the collaborations of schools encompassed two main themes:” Contemporary Visual Art“ and “Cultural Experience and Creations Based on Space and Environment”. It was a series of works collectively created by students and teachers from elementary, junior high, senior high schools and universities in Tainan.
Contemporary Visual Art
The series of programs provided opportunities for elementary, junior, and senior high school students to experience and create art. The students were guided by the artists in the workshops to incorporate their personal experiences and observations in life into their creations. Participants could tell different stories through distinctive approaches of expression.Four programs include: Drawing of Feeling and Expression, Natural and Artificial Movement, Abstract and Perceptive Colors, and Geometric Patterns in Graphic and 3D Designs.
Cultural Experience and Creations Based on Space and Environment
The program designed for university students has focused on observations on local environment, culture, and history. Through the process, participants could learn the composition and application of various media as well as develop their art and aesthetic perceptions to stimulate originality. Students could exert creativity in different fields and learn how to communicate and cooperate with teammates, which helped facilitate the strategic planning process for learning and for realizing the project.
