Yunyi Liu obtained her BFA from Taipei National University of the Arts in 2005, Diplom (equivalent to MFA) from Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle in Germany in 2010, and Meisterschülerin, the highest artist diploma from Burg Giebichenstein in 2014. Between 2011 and 2016, Liu held residencies in internationally renowned art villages such as Berlin, Jena, Schwalenberg in Germany, and Istanbul, Turkey, as well as Taipei Artist Village, The Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung and Soulangh Artist Village in Tainan. Moreover, Liu received S-An Aesthetics Award (Plastic Arts category) from S-An Cultural Foundation in 2013. Next Art Tainan Award in 2015. Honorable Mention of Taoyuan Contemporary Art Award in 2016. Her works were also acquired by the Artbank of Ministry of Culture.

What interests me is how spatial transformation affects human psychology. By shooting abandoned, uninhabited buildings in different cities, historical and cultural contexts, I connect the collapsing architectural spaces and people's emotional memories. The hidden past of these empty, sealed and abandoned spaces is what fascinates me. Those invisible historical voids become the fermented place for imaginations. With my personal awareness and perception to fill the voids, along with the image creation process channels through the tiny crevices, the imagination and meanings flow between inside and outside of the space boundaries, and between the visible and invisible. This photograph series is a huge collage of images on the same object shooting from different perspectives and time slots. It becomes a space with compressed time and aesthetics of monumental style. Through this creation process, the meanings of vanished spaces are elevated, and their values are transformed.
