(The Wind Will Carry the Taste)

Mikio Saito, born in 1978, is a Sapporo-based visual artist. Holding an MFA from Städelschule, Frankfurt, Germany, Mikio works mostly with video installations through combining hand-drawn animation, photographed images, and computer graphics. Aoi Swimming was born in Hokkaido in 1984. With a pinpoint power and a huge sense of humor, she places socio-political critique in the minds of listeners.

During residency at Soulangh, artists were intrigued by the creative ideas at local places like streets, temples, alleys, night markets, and all kinds of restaurants. They were amused by the holders for the plastic wrappers of disposals chopsticks, ventilation holes on the billboards, and those large, blue fans in the night markets. No matter it is natural wind or manmade wind, its presence related to local delicacies always brings out some multi-layered, cultural distinctiveness, which inspired the artists to create this project. ‘The Wind Will Carry the Taste’ is composed of a series of animations, music videos, ceramics, cardboard cut-outs, and multi-media installations specifically designed for the gallery.
