(Art Installation: Wind Dog Guardian)

Born in Taiwan in 1986, Cheng-liang Li, the Tainan-based artist, graduated from the Department of New Media Art in Taipei National University of the Arts. He was the recipient of Kaohsiung Arts Awards in 2014. His works have been widely exhibited around Taiwan. For Li, there is no limit when it comes to materials used to create artworks. Specializing in connecting the moment of life with its surroundings, Li primarily works on building 3D sculptures or installations to be involved in space and environment.

During Li's residency, Tainan had been hit by several typhoons. The sculpture ‘Wind Dog Guardian’ serves as a spiritual symbol to protect the park from storms. This vivid sculpture shows the image of a faithful dog guarding its home. By using toppled trees from typhoons, the artist reshapes the materials and gives new life to these abandoned woods so that the old trees can sustain their roles as guardians for the land. This unique sculpture not only connects to the history and culture of local community but also prays for a better future for Soulangh Cultural Park.
