Project for residency: A Spatial Writing of the Lifescape in Tenjin-yama

Streets, different from a map, which interprets a place in a structural way, reflect daily life of local residents. This project provides an alternative to perceive a place through the viewpoint of a “walker” in the city. By sketching, collaging, and writing, the walker constructs the “lifescape” in the surrounding areas of Tenjin-yama. From the walker’s perspective, streets and buildings in Tenjin-yama can be depicted in a more intricate manner since during the process of walking and sketching, the walker can control the pace to feel and observe the place. Drawing techniques also help recreate the scenes in the mind of the walker through his own interpretation. The 3 dimensional recording and drawing are presented in a side-scrolling method following the steps of the walker.
