約書亞・卡拉漢 Joshua Callaghan

Joshua Callaghan (Pa., USA, 1969) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. He received his MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles (2005) where he studied with Chris Burden, Charles Ray, John Baldessari and others. He also holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Asheville (1992) and received a Fulbright Fellowship in Nepal (1995).

 He has had solo shows at Harmony Murphy Gallery, Los Angeles, CA (2015), Royale Projects, Palm Desert, CA (2014), Steve Turner Contemporary, Los Angeles, CA (2009, 2011), Haas & Fischer Gallery, Zurich, CH (2008), and Bank Gallery, Los Angeles, CA (2008).  He participated in group show such as Made in Space at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, New York, NY (2013), and Neo Povera at L&M Arts, Los Angeles, CA (2013) among others. He has also completed a series of public projects in Los Angeles, New York City, and Taipei.


Statement:


I look at the ground and in the gutters for inspiration. My projects are examinations of everyday objects and unremarkable spaces that are easily ignored, yet, to me, are reflections of humanity. By re-organizing these familiar sources, playing with scale, perception and anthropomorphism, I hope to break the logic of the commonplace to reveal humor, pathos and poetry.
