關於雕塑創作使用的媒材

藝術家此次駐村的雕塑創作,聚焦在如何使用/選擇媒材。媒材本身的歷史和脈絡,能多大程度地融入雕塑的內容?本身的選擇和決定,受其歷史背景影響多深?而當媒材一開始就已設定好,又會讓作品成為什麼模樣?

藝術家挑選了咕咾石(珊瑚礁岩塊) 屋頂瓦片、以及曾被用於不同建築的木材。

木樑的部分材料是台灣紅檜及咕咾石,兩者目前都已被列為瀕危、須受保護。而這亦象徵著人類對資源的使用,也許它們是這區域特有的材料,卻也可延伸觸及全球普遍面對的議題。

Thoughts on the use of material in sculptural work

This residency is about focusing on the question of how to use/choose material for her sculptures- to what extent does the history or the context of the material become the content of the sculpture- how are her choices and decisions what to do with the material driven by its history and how much has she already decided by choosing the material she want to work with in the first place.

Artist picked coral stones, ceramic tiles from roofs and wooden pieces from different buildings.

The wooden beams made of Taiwanese Cypress and the coralstones, both of which are protected today, in danger of extinction- they signify our use of resources- they might be material specific to this region, but they touch on a global issue.
